Back in 2006, two Weekend Sherpa writers ventured to watch Mrs. Doubtfire in San Francisco’s Washington Square Park. It was part of Film Night in the Park’s free outdoor film series, with donations benefiting the San Francisco Neighborhood Theater Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving historic movie theatres. As San Francisco winds threatened to knock down the giant air-filled screen, the crowd could be heard in a collective “Whoaaa!” All part of the fun! But even more enjoyable was kicking back in a local park to watch this classic comedy starring Robin Williams, filmed locally. Film Night in the Park continues this summer with a 2014 summer schedule that includes Bullitt, famed for its car-chase scene filmed in San Francisco.
