If your Valentine’s date is a dog (and we mean the four-legged furry kind), head to where Peru meets Northern California. La Costanera restaurant in Montara, just north of Half Moon Bay, serves up more than contemporary Peruvian cuisine. Their downstairs outdoor patio with two fire pits is dog-friendly and offers plenty of space, plus sizzling views of the Pacific and Montara Beach. Order a Pisco Sour cocktail and some stuffed yucca balls, then kick back to watch the sand turn golden as the sun sets. Doggone good.
TIP: Start things off with a stroll on dog-friendly Montara Beach (stair access right from La Costanera). The beach meanders for about a mile (one-way) and the tempestuous ocean waves add a little excitement.
La Costanera, 8150 Cabrillo Hwy., Montara; 650-728-1600. The restaurant is hosting “A Valentine’s Day to Remember.” The meal will include a three-course dinner and a glass of champagne. Happy Hour is Sunday through Friday, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Montara Beach and the outdoor patio at La Costanera are both dog-friendly!
