Sedona’s famed red rocks have been luring hikers and spiritual seekers for many years. And there’s something else to seduce you to the high desert. The intimate L’Auberge de Sedona Resort & Spa is in a highly coveted lush location on the banks of Oak Creek. It makes going with the flow very easy … and by that we mean soothing your bones in your private cedar outdoor shower, dining right next to the water on the restaurant patio, or waking up to a chorus of ducks splashing just a few feet away. The modern creekside cottages are a favorite hideaway here, with pathways leading right from your front door to lounge chairs lining a sandy shore along the water. Vista suites—overlooking Snoopy Rock, Giants Thumb, and Elephant Rock—aren’t too shabby either and make for some sublime sunset viewing. Spend your days hiking the red rocks, but be sure to take time for the L’Auberge Spa, where hot stone massages feel like a rite of passage and guests can create their own body scrubs from natural ingredients like lavender and cacao. There’s also “Feet in the Creek” reflexology (sure to calm down your barking dogs). Explore the grounds and find pleasant respites like Serenity Point, a popular place for meditation. At night, follow the lantern lights to relax by one of the firepits under the starry desert sky.
BONUS HIKE: Sedona is loaded with easy-access hiking trails. A classic is the short but challenging hike to Cathedral Rock (pictured), one of the most photographed places in Arizona and a hotspot for the area’s famous vortexes. The latter part of the trail ascends steeply to the top saddle, where fingerlike rock spires make a big impression, and so do the views.
Because L’Auberge offers a variety of packages and seasonal pricing based on your choice of accommodation there, it’s best to check their website for all the rates. Dog-friendly rooms are available.
