My Weekend Sherpa:

Want to do it Did it
Don’t get us wrong, we love the wine grape. But there’s another juicy and delicious fruit that’s worth celebrating. The olive! The 13th Annual Sonoma Valley Olive Season happens this January and February—two of the best months for a weekend escape to “real wine country.” Events from Martini Madness to olive-themed cooking and wine pairing classes keep things lively, with Valentine’s weekend marking the grand finale (and a cheeky way to say “Olive You”). Find overnight lodging that suits your style and budget (including many options within walking distance to the historic Sonoma Plaza). There are plenty of other ways to relax and explore Sonoma Valley, which is home to more than 100 wineries—including the very first winery established in California, Buena Vista. Pack some wine and local cheese for a picnic on Sonoma Plaza, the beautiful center park surrounded by tasting rooms, acclaimed restaurants, and hiking and biking paths. Make it a weekend getaway to remember: celebrate the fruits of Sonoma Valley.

BONUS: Sonoma Valley is very hike and bike friendly! Download a Hike/Bike guide including the Sonoma History & Wineries self-guided bike tour of five wineries and notable sites. Or pick up the info at either of the two visitors centers.

Check out all of Olive Season’s events and lodging options from hotels to B&Bs, including those within walking distance to the Plaza.
