Tamtastic Sunset
Head to Trojan Point on Mount Tam to Watch a Panoramic Sunset
Sure, the East Peak of Mount Tam is absolutely spectacular at sunset, but some magic-hour enthusiasts are onto a fresh perspective in getting a little more personal space for their panoramic viewings.
Trojan Point is located on Pantoll Road just south of Rock Spring. Trails here lead off in a variety of directions. From the parking area on the eastern side of the road, take the marked trail up to a nice open area for spreading a blanket and watching as the sun start its descent across the Pacific horizon.
On clear days, the Farallon Islands can be seen to the west, peeking out from the sea. To the south, San Francisco’s skyline stands tall and twinkling, and the tips of the Golden Gate Bridge just make it into this postcard scene.
Turn around towards Mount Tam and you’re very likely to see several other people on perches around the area, as trails go off from the western side of the road too. Bring a little picnic, spread your blanket, take a few phone pics (but remember to also just take in the moment), and exhale as the sun sinks and thins out, spreading into a glowing orange band across a beautiful horizon. Goodnight, indeed.
