Lake Chelan State Park Hiking

America's Lake Como (Without the Crowds)

Washington State Little Bear Trail Hike in Lake Chelan State Park

If Italy’s famed Lake Como has an American doppelganger, it’s Washington State’s Lake Chelan. The charming town, surrounded by good earth for growing standout apples and grapes, is named for its marquee oasis.

The lake, fed by glacial activity dating thousands of years, is the deepest (1,486 feet) in Washington State. And its backdrop? The majestic Cascade Mountains. Get out on the water for a tranquil standup paddle, or rent watercraft, like a pontoon. However you like to float, there’s a boat for you.

For a bird’s-eye view of Lake Chelan and the mountainous scenery, hike Little Bear Trail in Lake Chelan State Park. Little Bear is an easygoing trail (2.3 miles, all-in) that starts in a forest and gently ascends to a ridge overlooking the lake, with a few interpretive features along the way. Fall colors in foliage bring to mind apple spice delights in this fruit-filled region. The park also has a campground and sand beach with a picnic area.
